SPD taps Facebook so owners can reclaim over 200 stolen bikes

More than 200 motorcycles recovered from robbers and other criminal groups remain unclaimed at the Southern Police District (SPD) impounding area in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Out of the 277 bikes recovered by the police since March, only seven had been returned to their owners, according to Chief Insp. Conrado Bunyi, chief of the SPD’s police community relations division.

The most recent person to claim his motorcycle was Winston Dacanay, an office employee, who lost his bike on April 3, 2014, and found it at the impounding area on Monday, June 1.

In a statement on Tuesday, the SPD said it had posted photos of the recovered vehicles on the Facebook account of the District Anticarnapping Unit, SPD Dancar.

The page also captioned each photo with details about the bike’s model, color, plate number, chassis number and engine number.

“The SPD hopes that through the SPD Dancar Facebook account, more owners will be able to claim their motorcycles,” the district command said, as it also advised claimants to present the pertinent documents necessary for the verification process.
