The hackers, who called themselves “1937CN TEAM,” denounced the “joint action” of the Philippines and Vietnam on territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
“South China Sea is China’s inherent territory,” a text from the homepage read.
The website also contained defaced images of the Philippine and Vietnamese flags, among other texts.
“This is a warning from China 1937CN TEAM,” it added.
As of posting time, the website is still not back to its normal appearance.
China has been aggressive in its reclamation activities in the disputed territories over the past months, building artificial islands among other man-made structures.
