Thailand launches app for Muslim tourists

BANGKOK — Thailand is to launch a smartphone app providing local information for Muslim visitors, tourism officials said Tuesday.

The app, which will be launched on June 22 in English, Thai and Arabic, will help tourists find halal restaurants and hotels as well as mosques and tour operators.

The app is part of a campaign to woo more visitors from the Middle East, as well as Malaysia and Indonesia, which sent a combined 3 million tourists to the country last year, the Tourist Authority of Thailand said.
