VICE President Jejomar Binay vowed on Friday to provide free Wi-Fi to the entire country should he be elected President next year.
Binay made the statement after attending the launch of Cavite provincial government’s free Wi-Fi project for schools and households led by Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla, his former spokesperson.
Binay said he will also create a Department of Information and Communications Technology that would be in charge of the improvement of the country’s communications infrastructure.
“If I will be lucky to be the President next year, I will replicate the project of Gov. Jonvic here in Cavite and I will implement this in the entire country,” Binay said in a speech before the Cavite State University in Rosario, Cavite.
Binay said he would do this with the help of the private sector, which in turn will assist in widening the reach of cell sites so that Internet connections would be faster.
The Vice President lamented that internet connectivity in the country was considered one of the slowest in Asia.
He said he would do his best to convince private sector to expand its participation in the IT business.
