In a “staycation” this Holy Week?
Even if you are avoiding the summer heat and the influx of people traveling to and from the provinces, you can still observe the traditional Visita Iglesia in the comfort of your own homes in an innovative way.
This was after the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines launched a website for a virtual church visitation, where the public can view the churches in 360-degree perspective at https://visitaiglesia.net/ph/?page_id=774ibjbju.
Among the churches that can be visited are the ones ruined by Supertyphoon “Yolanda” and the Bohol earthquake in the Visayas, such as the Immaculate Concepcion Church in Guian, Eastern Samar; Santo Niño Church in Tacloban City and Palo Metropolitan Cathedral in Leyte.
Heritage churches such as St. Bartholomew Parish in Nagcarlan, Laguna; St. Augustine Parish in Cuyo Island, Palawan; Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan; and Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Metro Manila can also be accessed on the site.
This Lenten practice originated from the times, when pilgrims would visit the seven basilicas of Rome as penance on Maundy Thursday. RAM
