Remote control (RC) vehicle aficionados will now be able showcase their piloting skills in a professional setting, as the Drone Racing League (DRL) introduced its emergence to the scene through a promotional video released by pop-culture website, Mashable.
According to the 3-minute clip, the drone racing circuit will feature 16 competitors who’ll be duking it out in a a series of global events culminating into a world championship game.
Pilots will navigate their miniature helicopter-like drones—which goes as fast as 80 mph—through modified hallways and tunnels inside an abandoned mall.
Each quad-copter drone comes with a built-in camera which displays live feed to the pilots, as if they were actually seating inside a cockpit.
The pilots, meanwhile, come from a great variety of backgrounds from professional video gamers to former race car and motorcycle drivers.
