The daughter of Cristina Romualdez, the newly-elected mayor of Yolanda-hit Tacloban City, is in hot water for allegedly cursing and calling leading vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo “ignorant” on social media.
Not long after, Cristina posted an apology on her Facebook account over her 16-year-old daughter Sofia’s tweet that drew the ire of many netizens. Sofia has since deactivated her Twitter account.
The tweet read: “ P******** leni bobo naman yan walang alam yan t****** nyo.”
In a Facebook post, Cristina said: “In behalf of my daughter Sofia I apologize for such words she tweeted about (Leni). As a mother and most especially as a Christian, I do NOT approve of such words. She is very apologetic and is learning. Sofia is 16 so I believe she didn’t realize what she was doing.”
Cristina said Robredo, whom she met during the wake of former Interior secretary Jesse Robredo, “does not deserve such words.”
Cristina’s husband and predecessor Alfred Romualdez is a cousin of Robredo’s closest rival in the vice presidential race, Senator Bongbong Marcos. Marcos’ camp is accusing Robredo and the Aquino administration of rigging the unofficial tally of votes from the Commission of Elections.
Alfred Romualdez also had a rift with Robredo’s running mate Mar Roxas during the aftermath of Supertyphoon Yolanda that killed thousands in Tacloban City and other provinces in Western Visayas. Roxas lost the elections and had since conceded to presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte. JD/TVJ
