A video of a woman said to be possessed by an evil spirit in a Chinese grocery has appalled and terrified social media.
A CCTV camera captured the woman as she dropped to her knees and screeched in horror.
In the video, the woman was seen checking out a shelf of diapers while she was holding a blanket and a pillow. Then, she inexplicably started quivering and screaming on the floor. A younger shopper tried to calm the woman, but she belted out a scream.
Three other shoppers attended to the “possessed” woman by holding her still, but the woman let out a blood-curdling yell, and the shoppers stepped back. A simple healing ritual was administered to the woman, and she screamed for the last time as the three people who assisted her tumbled on the floor. The video footage went blurred for a few seconds.
The final scene showed shoppers carrying the ailing woman away.
According to British news site Mirror, the video was previously uploaded as “Strange Demonic Possession in Korea” on video-sharing site YouTube on May 14, but other sources confirmed that the footage was taped in China.
The video has been uploaded on Chinese video-sharing site Youku, reaping thousands of likes, and again on YouTube since Tuesday. A number of social media users branded the woman as a “fake actress,” while some others thought her rapid trembling was an “epileptic seizure.” Gianna Francesca Catolico
