An Australian marine photographer is said to have “won the photography lottery” when he captured a living fish peering into the blue ocean while trapped inside a transparent jellyfish. The “one-in-a-million” photo went viral on social media sites recently.
Tim Samuel seized the rare moment while snorkeling with a friend in Pass Beach, Byron Bay, Australia, a few months ago.
In an interview with CNN, he said he went snorkeling at the coral reefs with his friend videographer Franny Plumridge to photograph turtles. While Plumridge focused his lens on turtles, Samuel swam in an open area where he chanced upon the jellyfish and took a shot.
“There were no other fish in sight,” he said. “I just stumbled upon it.”

He stalked the aquatic creature for 20 to 30 minutes and admitted to CNN that he had a sophisticated time getting the right angles. The photos are also posted on his website and Instagram account.
In an interview with tech site Gizmodo, Samuel confessed that he was put in an “ethical dilemma”–he felt pity for the fish while at the same time was amused at the pristine and spectacular beauty of marine biodiversity. Gianna Francesca Catolico
