Uber, Grab, Uhop reminded of fare discounts

APP-based transport services should also grant the 20-percent fare discount to students, an official of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Friday to remind concerned operators in view of the resumption of classes next week.

“I would like to remind the TNVS (Transport Network Vehicle Services) operators and drivers to give the discount and refrain from making excuses…Any report and complaint shall be dealt with accordingly by the board,” LTFRB Board Member Ariel Inton said in a statement.

The fare discount from TNVS, or transportation network vehicle service, also applies to senior citizens and persons with disabilities as mandated by law.

The TNVS or partner vehicles of technology providers Uber, Grab and Uhop should grant the 20-percent discount to all students, PWDs and senior citizens, Inton stressed.

Failure to provide the fare discount is a franchise violation that carries a penalty of P5,000 for the first offense. The unit will be impounded for 30 days and the operator will be fined P10,000 on the second offense.

A third violation will be slapped with a P15,000 fine and cancellation of franchise.
