Android ‘Nutella’? Google exec’s tweets may have bared name

Has Senior Vice President for Android at Google Hiroshi Lockheimer ‘sealed’ tech gossips of Android N’s newest name?

Citing reports from The Verge and International Business Times, Locksheimer disseminated a series of tweets which made tech-savvy users speculate that Android N will be named “Nutella”, in reference to the popular Italian hazelnut spread.

One tweet showed a screen grab of a Google search of “Nutella” in his Chrome browser, while another tweet flashed a menu list of sweet delicacies, wherein Nutella was included.

Last month, Google announced that the next version of Android will be ‘chosen by the public’, where the top choice will be the winning name. The newest Android version is poised to launch later this year.

Astonishingly, this was not the first time Google Android incorporated a brand name for their product. Android Kitkat was used as a name for one of their Operating Systems.

The tech giant has already released 14 Android versions since 2008, with almost all of the versions’ names patterned after a sumptuous dessert or sweet in alphabetical order, such as Cupcake to Marshmallow, launched last year. Gianna Francesca Catolico
