It’s always a curiosity as to what it looks like when people experience virtual reality. The HTC Mixed Reality demo at E3 gives as an idea of what it’s like.

The report on TechCrunch shows that HTC’s booth at E3 features an interesting amalgamation of augmented and virtual reality. Using AR, onlookers will get a chance to see what the player is seeing and how he or she fits into the virtual environment.

The way they do it is by setting up a green backdrop that surrounds the player like in Hollywood special effects. Player movements are then recorded and superimposed unto the virtual environment and then projected into a large display as a single image. This gives the player’s movements context for passersby rather than just seeing a silly geek with strange goggles on his face jumping, ducking, and screaming at nothing.

The technology demo is not being aimed at the commercial market but rather for companies. It can be used as a way to show off what a designer is doing in real time. Alfred Bayle
