Qualcomm has announced that Tango technology from Google will be made available to smartphones equipped with their new Snapdragon chips.
The upcoming Snapdragon 800 and 600 SoCs are the latest chips to come out of the company and have already proven their Tango compatibility through the Lenovo Phab2 Pro. Considered as the first ever Tango-equipped smartphone, Lenovo Phab2 Pro runs on a quad-core Snapdragon 652 processor, Engadget reported.
According to Qualcomm, their new chips are so optimized for Tango that Google’s technology uses less processing power than a regular app and only needs less than two apps to function. The company has also made it easy for other phone manufacturers to adopt Tango technology by letting it run entirely on the new chips. This means there is no need for additional hardware aside from a depth sensor and motion tracking camera.
Since Tango is geared toward the adaptation of augmented reality, widespread development among phone manufacturers will help drive AR technology integration even further into users’ daily lives. Alfred Bayle
