Robots may not yet be common in households and doing our bidding but development has certainly come a long way. This robotic salamander proves the point.

Built by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL),Pleurobot mimics the way a real salamander moves on land or water based on x-ray videos they took.

Pleurobot is made up of 3D-printed bones, motorised joints, and electrical circuitry that serves as the central nervous system, according to an Engadget report. The scientists slightly modified the placements so that the robot’s movements would be as similar as possible to its organic counterpart.

Apart from its unbelievable movements, the robot helps scientists explore the relationship between spinal cord stimulation and the movements of vertebrates, including humans. These studies could lead to the development of neuroprosthetic devices for paraplegic patients and amputees. Alfred Bayle
