A Japanese girl was surprised when her Snapchat app suddenly activated one of its features that added silly effects to faces caught on the camera when there was no persons in front of her.

According to an article in RocketNews24, Twitter-user @mittyaro_ was surprised one evening when she heard the call button coming from the bathroom. She went to check on the Snapchat app, which was turned on to record whatever happened just in case. Upon pointing her phone toward the bathroom, the app’s feature activated and overlaid a funny effect on the screen. This feature only activates when it detects a face in front of the camera.

She posted, “I don’t like this, I want to go home.”

Followers reacted by posting their own theories about the phenomenon with one response even including a rough sketch of how Snapchat’s algorithm could interpret the image as something similar to a face.
