What’s cuter than a koala with blue and brown eyes?

While undergoing treatment for her injuries, blue- and brown-eyed Bowie will stay at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital and will be released back into the wilds when fully recovered.

That koalas are cute is an indisputable fact. Yet this female koala, named Bowie after rock star David Bowie, is  a head above the rest with her blue and brown eyes.

In fact, she has what is called heterochromia, a rare genetic condition wherein the eyes each have a different color but with no side effects to vision.

Mashable reports that Bowie was recently admitted to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital after being rescued last month. She was found injured with evidence pointing to a car collision.

Heterochromia is also a rare condition among humans, but it’s even more so in koalas. This genetic condition is more common in cats, dogs and other domestic mammals.

Bowie is still being treated at the hospital for a slight limp in the left leg and a mild case of cystitis. The cost of her treatment, between A$1,5000 and A$5,000, was partly funded by Wildlife Warriors.

Once recovered, Bowie will be returned to the wilds in the state of Queensland.  Alfred Bayle
