With Pokémon Go still unavailable in Asia, avid Chinese gamers have found an alternative to the virtual mobile game that has become a craze among Americans and Australians.
To feel the thrill Pokémon “trainers” experience, Chinese developer company Xiaoyu Sun created City Spirits Go, a slightly duplicate game of Pokémon Go and which is now No. 1 on the Chinese iOS App Store. The game was released on March 24, a few weeks after Pokémon Go’s Beta field test was administered in Japan and other selected countries.

Striking similarities are evident between Pokémon Go and City Spirits Go, from the name to the colors and physical attributes of the creatures. According to Rocket News, the artist behind the Chinese app’s monsters actually illustrates for a Chinese Pokémon fan magazine.
Even the Chinese app’s pocket monster shown on iOS can be described as Pikachu morphed into a raccoon.

The only difference between both games is City Spirits Go’s absence of augmented reality technology, but the game requires users to stretch and flex some leg muscles to “catch” the creatures. Gianna Francesca Catolico
