The battle for mainstream graphics card dominance heats up as NVIDIA gives a release date for its contender to the AMD RX 480. The GTX 1060 is to be made available to consumers July 19 at 2 p.m. (UK time).
The GTX 1060 is NVIDIA’s latest entry into the mainstream graphics card market and is set to be a direct competitor to the AMD RX 480. NVIDIA’s graphics card is priced at $250 while the AMD counterpart is priced at $200, reports Ars Technica.
NVIDIA claims that their GTX 1060 is 15 percent faster than the more power efficient RX 480, thereby justifying the slightly more expensive price tag.
Traditionally, NVIDIA waits around six months before releasing a new product after debuting their new flagship gaming GPU. However, the company surprisingly broke this tradition in the hope of taking a bigger market share from its competition. Alfred Bayle
