Commuting has always been an obstacle course for many Filipinos residing in Metro Manila. It reached a point where this passenger from the state-run Philippine National Railways (PNR) found a peculiar way to ease himself from the inevitable human traffic.
The passenger abruptly climbed and reclined his body at the train’s safety handrail. He even placed his feet at the train’s luggage compartment.
Fellow passenger Edmer Bade, 21, a civil engineering student, snapped the outrageous moment and posted it on his Facebook account, which registered more than a thousand likes and shares.
According to Bade, the menace passenger climbed up at around 8 p.m. at FTI station and departed the train at Bicutan station. When passengers left the train, the man bewildered his fellow commuters with his perilous stunt.
“Sobrang nasisiksik[an] daw po kase siya, halos lahat po ng pasahero [ay] nakatingin sa kanya at nagtatawanan,” Bade narrated in an interview with INQUIRER.net. The male passenger quipped that he is already “sandwiched” inside the train.
The student was awed when his “simple post” went viral on social media. “Simpleng post ko lang po kase yun. Nagulat na lang ako [dahil] paggising [ko] kanina, ang dami ng shares,” he admitted.
The PNR, which is over a century old, accommodates 70,000 passengers every day.
The obsolete trains operating at PNR caused countless delays and technical glitches. The same situation happens at the Metro Rail Transit and Light Rail Transit, where thousands of its passengers perspire due to trip delays, jampacked rides, and inadequacy of proper air-conditioning systems.
