All-time favorite anime and bestselling manga “One Piece” will have a modern makeover in its newly released film, “One Piece Gold,” which stormed Japanese theaters on Saturday. The classic film, which was set in the fictional country of Grantesoro, grossed US$11 million (P518 million) in its first two screening days, the hugest sales in Japanese movie in history.
To celebrate the film’s feat, local supplier Tokuriki Honten has sculpted two limited edition Monkey D’ Luffy figurines–and it’s not an average plastic figurine, it’s made from 24-karat solid gold. Monkey D’ Luffy is the series’ protagonist and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates.
According to AT Press and Kotaku, two sculptures will be sold in Japan. One is 180mm tall, weighs 1,300 grams, and is priced at 20,000,000 yen (P8.98 million). The other one is 100mm, weighs 32 grams, and is worth 650,000 yen (P292,000).
The two One Piece memorabilia will be sold on Aug. 1 in that country. Gianna Francesca Catolico
