Appalling: Man in central China's Changsha chops down a tree only to steal the bike locked on it

A closed-circuit footage of an unidentified Chinese man was spotted toppling a camphor tree to claim a locked bike has surfaced online.

The clip, which was shared on China People’s Daily Facebook page, was taken on Monday in Changsha City, Hunan province. As seen in the video, the incident happened at 5:44 a.m. After arriving from his scooter, the man begins sawing the tree and pauses when a motorist passes by. Then, he resumes his “business” and eventually slices the tree. He claims the padlocked bicycle, stashes it at his motorcycle, and dashes away.

The Changsha Administrative Enforcement Bureau said that the healthy tree was five years old and valued at around 1,000 yuan (P7,032), South China Morning Post reported.

No further details were exposed as of the moment. It is unclear if this is a robbery case because the bike might have belonged to him.  Gianna Francesca Catolico
