A while back, big computer companies predicted that the PC was on the way out. Fast forward to today and we see the PC actually being revitalized with the growth of virtual reality. Thus, HP decided to get back into the action with its new OMEN X gaming desktop PC.

The OMEN X is part of HP’s unified gaming portfolio which was announced in May. Sporting an unconventional cube design, it comes equipped with a sixth-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor with overclocking capabilities. Graphics is handled by VR-ready GPUs from either NVIDIA or AMD (GTX 1080 or Radeon R9 Fury X) and can even support dual GPU configurations for a complete 4K gaming experience.

OMEN X is also completely liquid-cooled and features a tri-chamber design that is each equipped with a 120mm cooling radiator. Apart from optimizing cooling, this design also compartmentalizes the components, allowing for four hot-swappable hard-drive ports.

In a surprising twist, HP is offering the cubic OMEN X chassis à la carte for PC enthusiasts who want to customize their system even further.

In an effort to enhance the gaming experience, HP is partnering with SteelSeries to release OMEN branded peripherals such as headsets, keyboards, gaming mice and mouse pads.

The OMEN X will be open for orders on the HP website starting Aug. 17 with a starting price tag of $1,799. The stand-alone OMEN X chassis will be priced at $599.99. Alfred Bayle
