The worldwide success of Pokémon Go has spawned multiple augmented reality (AR) games in the market. Cue in “Night Terrors,” an in-development mobile horror-game using the same AR technology but with a different horrifying twist.
The highly anticipated app maps the user’s environment and fills it with terrifying creatures—ghouls, ghosts and other petrifying entities. It then uses the camera’s information to create personalized scares by turning a home into a real-life survival-horror game, a Gizmodo report said.
The game can also manipulate your phone by sending eerie photos and text messages. As if the app was not scary enough, developers claim they’re using physical special effects rather than computer-generated imagery.
That’s not all, the game will even scan things like art on your walls, giving the ability to push the objects around and even drop them, as seen in the phone’s screen. Aside from its haunting features, it can be hooked with an Apple watch to record the user’s heartbeat.
Despite its innovative features, the game follows a rather clichéd narrative of video games—save the girl and be the hero.
“Night Terrors” is expected to be released between October and November, just in time for Halloween season. The app will be made available free for Android and iOS users.
