For as long any netizen can remember, there have always been trolls. Thankfully Twitter is rolling out two new features that will help users ignore these pestering minions of darkness.
Based on a report from TechRadar, the first new feature will provide users with better control on their notifications, which will allow users to get updates only from the accounts that they follow. Responses from random people will no longer show up in the alerts. Hopefully this will help prevent harassing content and spam from pestering users.
The second update is a quality filter that will better evaluate which tweets will show up in the notifications tab. The algorithm will filter out “lower-quality content” based on signals like account origin and behavior to keep it out of users’ notifications and “other parts of their Twitter experience.”
Duplicate content will also be filtered out, as well as tweets that appear to be automated. However, alerts from followed accounts and people recently interacted with will still show up.
These features have actually been offered to users with verified accounts for some time but with this rollout, every Twitter will be able to enjoy a less toxic feed of content.
To turn on the new features, navigate to the Notifications tab in the nav bar. Click on Settings and toggle the Quality and Only People You Know filter and voilà, fewer troll and spam posts to see for everyone! Alfred Bayle
