Uber, Grab and other ride-hailing apps have changed the way people call for transportation. A company called Squire has taken this innovation, offering barbershops.

Barbershops have not changed much over the decades. People walk in, get a cut, pay their barber, and be on their way looking dapper. Squire’s software aims to provide barbershops with a platform that will allow potential customers to find the shop, book an appointment, and even pay through the software, reports TechCrunch.

The customer facing platform is a mobile app that’s available on the Apple App Store. Barbershop owners basically sign up for the app and customers are able to locate the closest barbershop.

Barbershops are an old type of business and have been around for a very long time so one would think that owners would not be receptive to this new piece of technology. On the contrary, barbershop owners have recognized the potential that technology offers in terms of growing their business and have been more than eager to get on board.

Squire currently services over 100 shops in New York and San Francisco while targeting 1,000 more shops by next year.

Since the app and the company is relatively new, barbershops are enjoying the service for free while customers get charged $1 per transaction. In the future, the company hopes to expand services that it offers like marketing, accounting and a POS system for those who still prefer to pay with cash. These features will allow Squire to further monetize on the app service. For now, the company’s goal is to sign up as many barbershops as possible.  Alfred Bayle
