Facebook has launched “Star Trek” reaction buttons for users in the US and Canada in celebration of the saga’s golden jubilee.
In a post by Lindsey Shephard, Facebook Messenger’s marketing head, she said Facebook developed an adorable tribute to the legendary sci-fi franchise in its 50th anniversary. “When we caught the wind that Star Trek would be celebrating 50 years this month, it got our wheels turning. We wanted to mark this fun, nostalgic moment and help the passionate community of Star Trek fans celebrate in some unique ways on Facebook,” she wrote in her post on blog site Medium.
The five reaction stickers are Spock’s iconic Vulcan salute, Kirk (Haha), Spock (Wow), Geordi (Sad) and Klingon (Angry).
Aside from the reaction buttons, users can set their temporary profile picture with a Star Trek-themed frame design of USS Enterprise, the film’s aircraft carrier.
Facebook users who liked Star Trek’s Facebook page will automatically acquire the limited edition reaction buttons and profile picture frames. Gianna Francesca Catolico
