Magicians often dazzle people by seemingly producing something out of nothing. This device from an Israeli company is something of a magician itself as it creates water from air, hot and humid air to be exact.
Israel-based Watergen has developed technology that allows machines that pull water vapor from hot and humid air and turn it into clean drinking water, reports Business Insider.
The water generators work by funneling air in various directions using plastic “leaves.” The hotter the environment and the ore humid, the more pure drinking water a generator can produce. The cooler the environment, the less water will pump out.
Water generators would be perfect for rural areas that do not have drinkable tap water as well as places that are hot and humid all year round.
Chairman of Maxim Palik stated that climate change and the growing world population are two of the factors that highlight the issue of having accessible drinking water. Because of this, Watergen is hoping to bring their technology to governments of countries that struggle in providing their citizens of a basic human need.
Apart from providing for rural areas, Watergen is also looking into applications within cities where large-scale water generators can be installed on roof-tops of residential as we ll as commercial buildings. The water produced can then be collected into reservoirs and then distributed around the structure. They are also developing smaller, appliance scale water generators for homes.
Co-CEO and founder Arye Kohavi stated, “What’s important for us is to bring water to the people. This is a basic human right.”
Field tests in cities like Mexico City, Mumbai, and Shanghai as well as numerous rural areas are currently underway. Water generators will be commercially available by the end of 2017. Alfred Bayle
