These days, high-profile institutions and individuals have become the favorite targets of hackers. The latest victim was the news site BuzzFeed.
A hacking group, called OurMine, claimed credit for hacking into the well-known news site and even nonchalantly posted its achievement on BuzzFeed’s news feed itself, reports Gizmodo.
The post, which has already been taken down, was published under BuzzFeed news writer Joseph Bernstein’s byline. The message read:
“Hacked by OurMine team, don’t share fake news about us again, we have your database. Next time it will be public. Don’t fuck with OurMine again.”
Apparently an article written by Bernstein had roused the group’s ire. The article was headlined, “This Saudi Teen Is Probably Behind the Hacks of Dozens of Tech CEOs.” The story talked about the teen who had been suspected as the mastermind behind OurMine.
OurMine had also claimed responsibility for hacking Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s social media accounts.
Apart from posting its statement, OurMine also altered the headlines of other BuzzFeed posts with “Hacked by OurMine Team” before being promptly fixed. Alfred Bayle
