A contestant belted out the theme song of “Dragon Ball Z” during his blind audition for the fifth season of “The Voice Thailand” on Sunday, and not only did he electrify the studio audience but also the populous internet audience.
Ditthawat Chaikaewruchikorn, 35, blew minds with his rendition of “Cha-La Head-Cha-La,” which emerged as an instant four-chair turner performance. Seconds after he sang, Saharat Sangkhapricha, one of the show’s four coaches, thrust the buzzer button to watch the contestant’s piece. Soon after, judges Namchok Natanrom, Thanida Dhammawimol, and hip-hop icon Joey Boy rotated their seats in hopes of charming him to their respective teams.
After his magnificent performance, Chaikaewruchikorn enacted out the “Kamehameha” gesture, a symbolic attack technique by Dragon Ball protagonist Son Goku.
Curious if he could sing other anime theme tracks, Natanrom requested for Chaikaewruchikorn to sing “Doraemon no Uta.” Slightly reluctant to sing it at first, he spontaneously delighted the four judges with the “Doraemon” opening song, while the audience chanted the song with him. When asked if he could belt out another Japanese anime song, Chaikaewruchikorn belted out Make-Up’s enormous hit, “Pegasus Fantasy,” which was the opening theme of the 1986 anime series “Saint Saya.”
The anime singer picked Joey Boy to mentor him through his “The Voice” pilgrimage, Geek revealed.
His performance clip uploaded on YouTube racked up 4 million views in nearly four days and 252,000 on the show’s Facebook page. Gianna Francesca Catolico
