Veteran broadcaster Noli De Castro drew flak on social media for what netizens described as “awkward” and “cringe-worthy” interview with newly crowned Miss International Kylie Verzosa.

During TV Patrol’s Oct. 28 broadcast, De Castro asked Verzosa if she has a boyfriend, to which the beauty queen answered: “No, korona lang (No, just a crown).”

“Lungkot naman niyan (That’s sad),” De Castro added.

The anchor was about to cut the interview when Verzosa said: “No, hindi siya malungkot (it’s not sad). No, of course not! The crown is only once in a lifetime.”

De Castro added that Verzosa may have gained more suitors and admirers after winning the crown, to which the latter just laughed at.

Highlighting international understanding, Verzosa bested 68 other contestants as she bagged the 6th Miss International title for the Philippines last Friday in Tokyo, Japan. The country last won the Miss International in 2013 with Bea Rose Santiago.
