For those who group in the ‘90s, Funny Comics was a popular source of entertainment for kids, apart from running around outside playing “patintero” or “agawan base.” That said, one of the comic’s iconic characters is set to make a comeback with an all-new modern look.

Gaming studio Ranida Games recently released a teaser for one of its current projects, which features Funny Comics’ one and only Combatron.

For the uninitiated, Combatron was the ‘90s kid’s Pinoy version of the Japanese game character Rockman. Combatron was part-human, part-machine, and went about fighting evil with his trusty robotic canine that transformed into a nifty hoverboard.

In the teaser video, Ranida Games’ version of Combatron sports a whole new “modernized” look in 3D. His limbs are more streamlined and a black undersuit is clearly visible beneath blue armor pieces. The 3D model also showcases Combatron firing off his signature chest beam.

The thought of a Combatron game being made certainly elicits a lot of nostalgia especially for someone who grew up reading about his exploits including the sad moment when his robot dog Askal died.

No other details have been revealed so far, but here’s hoping that one of the icons of Pinoy comics will be able to make a mark in the 21st century through a new media format.  Alfred Bayle
