It seems that AI assistants are all the rage right now and Samsung wants in on the action. A new rumor has surfaced that the company is working on its own AI assistant to “blow” the competition out of the water.

The alleged AI assistant is said to be making its way into the the upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone, reports The Next Web.

Samsung confirmed last Sunday to Reuters that its AI assistant service is expected to be available on all “Galaxy smartphones and [eventually] expand voice-assistant services to home appliances and wearable devices,” beginning with the flagship S8.

Apart from this piece of information, no other details have been revealed except that it will have seamless integration with other third-party devices.

Samsung Executive Vice President Rhee Injong also had a few words to share about their latest endeavor: “Developers can attach and upload services to our agent. Even if Samsung doesn’t do anything on its own, the more services that get attached, the smarter this agent will get, learn more new services and provide them to end-users with ease.”

Development of this new technology has been passed on to newly acquired Viv Labs.

With Samsung still reeling from the debacle that is the Note 7 and even a few “malfunctioning” washing machines, the company is in dire need of a solid strategy that will effectively raise its tarnished name back up and reclaim its former glory. Developing its own AI assistant for the S8 might just do the trick, provided Samsung does it right and does it very well.  Alfred Bayle
