Microsoft’s membership to the Linux Foundation benefits both parties, especially with regards to Microsoft Azure.
There was a time when Microsoft was completely against open source and, in effect, Linux. But these days, the company is one of the biggest contributors to the Linux Kernel so this latest move can be described as nothing more than a positive eventuality.
As a platinum member, Microsoft will be paying annual dues of $500,000 which will go to fund development, outreach and management, reports The Next Web.
Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux Foundation, said that Microsoft’s membership would allow the company to be “better able to collaborate with the open source community to deliver transformative mobile and cloud experiences to more people.”
Other platinum members of the Linux Foundation include Cisco, Fujitsu, HPE, Huawei, IBM, Intel NEC, Oracle, Qualcomm and Samsung. Alfred Bayle
