After a long time in development, a new trailer for “The Last Guardian” has just been revealed and with it a release date for the highly anticipated game.

The PlayStation blog also details an interview with creative director Fumito Ueda regarding his personal inspirations, connections of ‘The Last Guardian’ with ‘Shadow of the Colossus,’ and thoughts on expanding the influence of the videogame medium.

Ueda mentions how Trico, the large hybrid creature featured in the game, was influenced by his experience of having a lot of animals around while growing up.

“In creating Trico, I didn’t really have to do any specific research because it’s a creature that obviously doesn’t exist. But it’s really all based on my childhood memories, the way I interacted with the animals, the way they reacted to me,” says Ueda.

With regards to the connection between The Last Guardian and Shadow of the Colossus, Ueda leaves it up to the imagination of player.

And as for his final words for finishing The Last Guardian, Ueada said, “It’s quite simple… at the end of playing through the game, if the player feels the existence of Trico, like it’s really there, then we have accomplished what we set out to do.”

The Last Guardian is set for release on Dec. 7 for the PS4.  Alfred Bayle
