New app guides Catholic penitents to nearby churches for confession

In a rush to confess your sins? There is now a corresponding  app for this spiritual need.

A Roman Catholic archdiocese in Scotland formulated “The Catholic App,” or “Sindr,” a smartphone app that has identical features to dating app Tinder but encourages sinners to confess their wrongdoings in a brisk and innovative way.

The app, which was launched in Vatican on Tuesday, aids users in locating nearby churches around the Scottish cities of Edinburgh and St. Andrews. Also, the app lists details of Mass schedules and available priests for confession.

In an interview with Vatican Radio cited by TIME, Archbishop Leo Cushley said that they wanted to spread the Good News to millennials and make religious teachings in sync with technological advancements.“The idea was really inspired by the Holy Father himself. He said to be imaginative about what to do for the Holy Year of Mercy,” he explained.

To guide users to any neighboring church of their preference, Sindr uses software developed by Scottish technology company Musemantik.

“This is a little bit of smart technology that could make a big impact on how the Catholic Church brings the mercy of God and the joy of the Gospel to our contemporary world,” Cushley told the radio station.  Gianna Francesca Catolico
