WATCH: Super-knife using NASA technology perpetually sharp

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is known for its space exploration technology, but lo and behold, it seems like it has also unveiled the future of kitchenware.

Scientists from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), which is also home to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has come up with a knife-making innovation using unique materials from the world’s leading space agency.

The KNASA knife (pronounced as ”KA-NASA”) is made out of a patented metal alloy that is twice as strong as titanium, according to Thrillist.

At a projected selling price of $79 (P3,295), the reinvented kitchen staple’s edge is also guaranteed to stay sharp five times longer than the average knife.

As the promotional video suggests, KNASA is infused with a nano-serration technology, which basically allows the knife to sharpen itself.

The validity of its claim, however, has yet to be confirmed since the product still has not been made available to the public.

As of this writing, the knife has already exceeded its target Kickstarter funding of $20,000 and amassed over 2,000 backers.

A release date for the patented knife has yet to be determined, but already, it is noted as one of he most popular food-related Kickstarter’s projects of all time. Khristian Ibarrola
