Weather permitting, “falling stars” are visible on Wednesday night to early Thursday.
The annual Geminids meteor shower will be at its peak on Wednesday night to Thursday dawn, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its astronomical diary.
With clear skies, meteors or falling stars can be seen at an average rate of 40 meteors per hour.
“There’s a big difference between the Geminids and other meteor showers. The Geminids do not originate from a comet. They come from an asteroid (3200 Phaethon). Meteors from this shower are very rocky and gritty and slightly easier to see compared to the other showers,” Pagasa said.
Based on Pagasa’s morning weather forecast, there will be cloudy skies over Batanes, Calayan and most of Luzon and Visayas.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms will prevail over Mindanao. TVJ
