After much speculation and anticipation, gamers all over the globe finally have a date on when the next “King of Iron Fist Tournament” takes place.
Japanese video game publisher Bandai Namco finally confirmed the release date of the much-anticipated Tekken 7, which will be available on June 2 for PS4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam).
A classic father-and-son rivalry between central characters Kazuya and Heihachi Mishima takes center stage in a two-minute teaser trailer entitled Tekken 7: Rage and Sorrow.
Initially projected for an “early 2017” release, the game’s project lead Katsuhiro Harada cited several in-game improvements which took a while to materialize, hence making them fall short on their target date.
“The console version of Tekken 7 contains features, tuning, characters, and modes that are not found in the arcade version,” he wrote on Bandai Namco’s Facebook page.
“This version benefits from everything we learned from the arcade launch of the game. The console version also contains a full story mode not found in the arcade version, along with some fan favorite characters,” Harada shared. “We also want to make sure our online tournament features perform to the highest possible standard. All of these improvements take time and we appreciate your patience.”
The biggest reveal from the clip, however, is the appearance of Street Fighter resident character Akuma, who will be a playable character and will reportedly serve as an integral part of the game’s main story, according to Kotaku.
The announcement comes after a long wait for Tekken aficionados, with the game originally hitting Japanese consoles in 2015. This will also be the first time the popular-running franchise will be made available for PC gamers. Khristian Ibarrola
