Chevrolet car owners will soon be able to turn their cars into mobile hotspots. Starting March 3, owners may avail of an unlimited plan for $20 a month.

Subscribers will be given access to a prepaid OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot enabled by AT&T, reports The Verge.

Apparently, in-car Wi-Fi use jumped in 2016, with customers consuming up to 4 million gigabytes of data. Chevrolet says that this is 200 percent more data used than when using its OnStar hotspots in 2015.

This unlimited plan rollout was brought on by United States carriers rolling out their own unlimited subscription options. On the carrier side, the rollouts are primarily born from competition. It could be expected that the same scenario will play out among Chevrolet’s competitors.

For many car owners who are constantly on the move, their vehicles become like a secondary base of operations. In this world of overflowing information, it makes sense for it to have access to the internet. Alfred Bayle/JB
