Despite her old age and failing health,  Julieta Lorenzo continues to carry her disabled daughter whenever they go out from their house in Barangay Bolo, Roxas City.

Last week, Facebook user Gilbred Cargason Alsagon Jr. posted a tear-jerking story of Julieta, 69, who refused assistance from security guards in carrying her 30-year-old daughter Mary Jane inside the Development Bank of the Philippines Roxas branch. Mary Jane is unable to talk, stand and walk, so her mother has to tend to her needs every day.

According to Alsagon’s comment on the post, both Julieta and Mary Jane struggle to walk on an uncemented path clasped with tree roots just to claim Julieta’s monthly pension.

“The daughter was paralyzed since she was three years old. They were living together on their own and Nanay Julieta had to carry her daughter every time she has to go downtown, fearing that her daughter will be raped if left alone,” Alsagon added.

The post has been shared more than 37,000 times while the brief video attached to the post was streamed 3.5 million times as of Saturday.

“Higit po pala sa wheelchair ang kailangan nila (They need more than a wheelchair),” Alsagon commented, urging fellow netizens to donate for Julieta’s family. Gianna Francesca Catolico
