Sort and store data seamlessly, wirelessly

No more tangled wires for this gadget.

Seagate recently launched the world’s first GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage, the first battery-powered external hard drive to wirelessly extend the storage capacity of any Wi-Fi enabled mobile device.

With over 500 GB and Wi-Fi access and a rechargeable battery, the GoFlex satellite has truly become a game changer.

Wrapped in a cool and sexy shiny-black plastic, the Goflex is a lightweight device that enables users to carry with them an entire library of media files, such as high-definition movies, MP3s and game files.

As an added innovation, the GoFlex Satellite can provide entertainment for more than one user. The Wi-Fi capacity of the device allows three users to wirelessly share and stream media files at the same time.

It also comes with a guarantee that users will experience fast performance and enhanced entertainment experience.

And to ensure faster performance, the device is armed with a SuperSpeed 3.0 interface that can provide up to 10 times faster data transfer rates. It is also compatible with USB 2.0 interfaces that allow users the flexibility to access files from any PC.

The newest innovation also syncs media and documents on your PC and Mac computer. Wherever files are stored, whether it is a file structure of your own creation or in an iTunes library, the Media sync software will load all of your desired music, videos, photos and documents on to the GoFlex Satellite drive.

For Apple iOS devices such as iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and for any Android devices, the wireless hard drive comes with a GoFlex media app that provides a seamless way to connect the storage device to your mobile devices.

It is also equipped with a progressive download feature that temporarily loads the video on to the Android device it is being streamed to, allowing the drive to go into standby mode and thus, conserve the battery.

The lithium-ion battery can last up to five hours of continuous streaming for one user, and up to 25 hours of standby time. It also comes with a compact wall charger with retractable pins and a car charger.

The device has a very straightforward interface. With a quick start guide, a user will only need to switch on the GoFlex Satellite then join the Wi-Fi network. The user may then browse and play media. However, up to only three users may join the Wi-Fi network.

When asked about the limited number of users, Banseng Teh, Seagate Technology’s vice president and managing director for Asia-Pacific and Japan, said that it was because of the bandwidth limitations of the GoFlex Satellite.

Another limitation is that the Wi-Fi signal extends only up to 150 feet or 43 meters. Walls or any solid structures can also obstruct the signal.

GoFlex is the perfect companion for tablets and cell phones as it automatically categorizes photos and movies.

The drive also has the capacity to play any file supported by your device applications, such as MPEG-4, H.264, Motion-JPEG, AAC, MP3, Audible (formats 2, 3, 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV and all Microsoft as well as iWork, Adobe and Acrobat files.

Each device may also be protected with a password. It is located in the GoFlex interface under the security settings.

The drive also comes with a G-Force Protection Freefall Sensor Technology. This feature protects data by returning the internal drive to a non-operating state in the event of a drop, making the device ideal for use in mobile environments.

Weighing less than a pound, or 0.267 kilograms, the GoFlex Satellite suits the light traveller. The drive is a pocket-size device that is enclosed in a protective housing. It comes with an optional FireWire 800.

Upon purchase, the device also has a three-year limited warranty. It retails for P9,888.

The trends in storage device show that the amount of storage shipped have grown at a consistent rate throughout the entire decade.

In 2014, industry shipments will exceed one zettabyte. A zettabyte consists of a billion terabytes. With the GoFlex Satellite, Seagate aims to answer the call for bigger and more reliable storage devices.

With the latest innovation, the company moves toward mobility, consumerization and collaboration.

“With the GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage, we wished to create an elegant solution that provides real value to the multitude of tablet users out there by delivering a seamless connection to local storage,” Teh said.
