An Apple analyst by name of Gene Munster is predicting that the upcoming iPhone 8 may very well lead to a “paradigm shift,” thanks to an advantage with a particular piece of technology.
Munster explains that the iPhone 8 will feature “augmented reality as its foundation,” and it in turn will become the foundation of the next computing paradigm, reports 9To5Mac.
He adds that Apple’s growing services business, combined with their more advanced augmented reality (AR) technology, currently makes the company one of the top technology stocks in the market.
Another report from Bloomberg stated that Apple currently has “hundreds of engineers” devoted to augmented reality technology and this includes people from the iPhone camera team. The company’s goal is to add “AR-related features for the iPhone.” There is also a long-term goal of reportedly releasing “AR-enhanced glasses.”
Compared to VR, AR does not require powerful dedicated systems to run, making it more accessible for a wider audience. The success of Pokemon Go, an AR-powered mobile game, also lends to the viability of investing in the technology. Alfred Bayle/JB
