Just when you thought that admiration for fictional anime characters were limited to anime fans, you’ll be surprised to know that a penguin has found an anime girlfriend of his own.
Grape-kun is a penguin at the Tobu Zoo in Saitama Prefecture. He’s already a bit of a celebrity but a recent Twitter post has caught the attention of a lot more people. Apparently, Grape-kun has taken an interest on the cutout of Hululu, an anthropomorphic penguin from the anime series “Kemono Friends”, reports RocketNews24.

The tweet came from the official Tobu Zoo Twitter account. It showed Grape-kun standing in front of Hululu’s cutout. It appears he’s completely smitten as the tweet reads, “He really does like her. Today too, he’s been staring at her since morning.”

Grape-kun is currently 20-years old, an old man in penguin years.

“Kemono Friends” is a recent anime hit which stars a cast of zoo animals depicted as cute or “moe” anime girls. Hululu is a Humboldt penguin which also happens to be the same species as Grape-kun.

Unfortunately, zoo keepers had to separate the two lovebirds. Apparently, Grape-kun was so obsessed with the Hululu cutout that he ignored feeding time. So for his own good, he was isolated to make sure that he eats his meals like a good penguin should.
