When word got out that the teen who asked for a year’s supply of free chicken nuggets from Wendy’s broke Ellen DeGeneres’ tweet record, mixed reactions flooded Twitter.

Some congratulated @carterjwm while some believed he merely received a “participation trophy” because he hasn’t reached the 18 million retweets that was initially agreed upon.

Wendy’s snarky Twitter account defends the teen, saying that beating Ellen’s record was already an admirable feat warranting the nuggets @carterjwm asked for. Other Twitter users also came to @carterjwm’s defense.

Knowing Twitterfolk, the comments may just be in trolling jest rather than in sincere hostility aimed at the teen’s stroke of nugget fortune.

Either way, a year’s supply of free chicken nuggets could make anyone a little bit envious. These are chicken nuggets after all, and they can be quite hard to resist. Alfred Bayle/JB
