When a street view technician came to the island of Jukdo in South Korea last 2010, little did he know that he would have a companion during his stay.
As one explores Jukdo through Daum maps, a South Korean web service, a friendly face appears in the trail.
The golden retriever is named Maru, and as per KBS News since 2015, he is the only dog of the one resident family in the island. The only other pets are the two cats he lives with.
He usually runs free in fields and thickets without a leash, but is tied up when tourists arrive—though he always gives them a cheerful greeting.
So when he was allowed to roam free while a person toured the island to take photos, Maru was extremely excited and showed him the way:
Other times, he would stay close behind:
Whenever he ran ahead, he would afterwards wait patiently:
The Daum street view maps have not been updated, so one can still see Maru throughout the terrain. Google Maps has yet to scope out the island, so perhaps the welcoming dog will be there to guide yet again.
