A folk ensemble from the University of the Philippines did an ethnic twist on the “Game of Thrones” theme track.
In a clip that’s been garnering praises on social media since Saturday, the Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino (Kontra-GaPi) played the catchy tune from the hit HBO series using traditional Filipino instruments such as the tongatong, kubing, gangsa and kulintang. The group also wore traditional garments, giving fellow Filipinos goose bumps and a fervent sense of pride.
The video was uploaded on Sky Cable’s social media accounts as part of its promotion for the “Game of Thrones” Season 7 premiere. As of this writing, the clip has garnered 834,000 views and 8,875 shares. Gianna Francesca Catolico /ra
