Sexual harassment and molestation are rampant all over the globe and one Chinese manufacturer may have found the perfect remedy.

Fed up with unwanted advances from men, an increasing number of Chinese women are arming themselves with an “anti-pervert” miniature flamethrower with the ability to hurl one-half-meter-long fires.

The portable device, which fits in most ladies’ handbags, is being sold online on Chinese shopping service Taobao and can torch shady individuals with flames up to 1,800 degrees Celsius (3,300 Fahrenheit). Although non-lethal, the weapon could scald or even disfigure an attacker, the Telegraph reported.

“No matter where we stand, we can protect ourselves” one advert for the “self defense” product reads.

The “pocket rocket” flamethrowers are selling online for between £10 and £15 (P657 and P986), with a recorded increase in sales in July.

However, the Chinese government has warned that such devices were against the law and civilians shouldn’t take matters into their own hands.

Customers have also been advised to take extreme precaution when carrying one, as the switch could be accidentally triggered while still inside a handbag.  Khristian Ibarrola /ra
