WATCH: ‘Bloodborne’ game boss beaten by YouTuber using DDR dance pad

“Bloodborne” is a game made by FromSoftware, notorious for its difficulty. Yet one YouTuber dared play using a dance pad.

YouTuber and game streamer ATwerkingYoshi took on one of the game’s bosses, the Cleric Beast, using just a dance pad, a specialized peripheral generally used to play dancing games like “Dance Dance Revolution” (DDR). Despite the handicap, he managed to beat the monster on the first try.

His control system for the dance pad is heavily customized and setting it up is even more complicated. He gave a rundown of his process in a post on image-sharing site Imgur.

First off, the dance pad has limited functions. It is configured in such a way that he can only move to the left, because the right arrow is used for attacking. This limits his movement options in a game that forces the player to keep moving around to survive.

Second, his dance pad was for the PC while Bloodborne is a Sony PlayStation 4 exclusive. He had to go through some configurations in order for the dance pad to be recognized by the PlayStation console as a PS4 game controller.

ATwerkingYoshi explains that his experience using a dance pad to play “Dark Souls 3”, another notoriously difficult game from the same maker, made combat easier to adapt in“Bloodborne.”

“Bloodborne” was released in 2015 and puts players in the shoes of “The Hunter” to unravel the mysteries of the gothic, Victorian-inspired city of Yharnam and escape its confines.

This way of playing may appear unnecessary, but then again, how many gamers are there who can proudly say they just “danced” through a game as challenging as “Bloodborne”? JB
