The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) constantly warned the public about the dangers of looking at the eclipse without protective eyewear, but apparently rapper Joey Bada$$ did not listen.
Born as Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, the American hiphop artist is being mocked online as “Joey Badeyes” for canceling three upcoming shows shortly after tweeting he didn’t need special eyewear to marvel at the recent Great American Eclipse.
“Am I crazy for watching the eclipse today [with] no glasses?” Joey Bada$$ tweeted before the cosmic phenomenon. “I’ve sungazed before and afterwards saw colors for a whole day. I didn’t die tho (sic).”
He added:, “This ain’t the first solar eclipse and I’m pretty sure our ancestors ain’t have no fancy eyewear. Also pretty sure they ain’t all go blind.”

Although he did not indicate staring at the eclipse as the reason for his sudden cancellation of his shows, netizens were quick to speculate.

Meanwhile, doctors have warned that staring at the sun even for a fracture of a second could cause damage to one’s retinas, according to the Huffington Post.
