Eight highlights from the past week’s worth of trailers, from smooth mansion infiltration game “Echo” to children’s app “Pokémon Playhouse”, by way of “Fortnite: Battle Royale”, “Dunkers 2”, “SteamWorld Dig 2”, “Forza Motorsport 7”, the “Minecraft” Better Together update, and the “Tomb Raider” movie trailer.
Echo – Launch Trailer
Sneak deep inside a beautifully palatial fortress where the enemies are copies of yourself, and through your actions they learn how to stop you. Something of a surprise hit on Windows PCs via Steam, and coming to PlayStation 4 in October.
Dunkers 2 Trailer
Silly one-on-one basketball game in which dunking, spectacular dunking, is what it’s all about. The original “Dunkers” was already very well received, and this follow-up has new characters, dunk effects, ball types and visuals. Expected on iOS from September 28 or thereabouts.
Fortnite Battle Royale – Gameplay Trailer
Base-building, four-player monster-repelling game “Fortnite” gets a super-strength dose of “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds”-itis on Sept. 26, when this free spin-off launches on PS4, PC and Xbox One.
SteamWorld Dig 2 launch trailer
Scrabble around caverns and tunnels in search of valuable metals, vital upgrades, and a pathway around (or through) the lurking beasties towards the cause of troubles in the trading town above. Very well received upon its Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and Linux release; on PS4 and Vita the week of Sept. 26.
Minecraft – Better Together update
Speaking of Xbox One, “Minecraft” players on the Microsoft console can now join up with those on mobile and Windows 10. Owners of the disc version have until January 30, 2018 to log five hours of play over the past 12 months, or purchase a DLC pack, in order to secure eligibility.
Forza Motorsport 7 4K Launch Trailer
Over 700 cars to race, 30 tracks, dynamic weather conditions, and cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10. Rolling out on October 3 with early access from September 29 the offered incentive to pre-order an Ultimate Edition before launch day. Demo available.
Tomb Raider Official Trailer #1
Not a new game but an adaptation of the franchise’s last two entries, starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”) as Lara Croft who, picking up on her lost father’s treasure hunt, is determined to find the truth.
Welcome to Pokémon Playhouse!
A Pokémon game intended for younger players (hence, no text to read or numbers to add up), plus the added benefit of being able to play in the company of some of the franchise’s cutest creatures without having to collect or train them up first. Available for Android and iOS. JB
